HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING MOTIVATED TO WORK OUT? HERE ARE 8 TIPS..
During this time it’s hard to stay motivated and to get up from your comfort slumber to work out, especially with all the gyms being closed. The benefits of working out are important for both your physical and mental health, if you can put aside at least 20 minutes a day for exercise, you will feel so much better for it.
So what are the best ways to get yourself motivated and to stop binge watching Netflix all day everyday?
PICK YOUR ROUTINE.
You don’t need to spend money on a subscription to workout. There are so many Youtube videos available that go through workout routines step by step and handy for you to follow. Go through Youtube and find your favourite ones to save onto a playlist.
I usually plan a weeks worth with different routines, for example I’ve found a good few leg and bum exercises I like, a few abs ones and HIIT ones I can mix up and change throughout the week. Make sure you include a stretch routine too as it’s important to remember to stretch out your muscles, especially if you are sitting for long periods of times throughout the day and not moving as much as you are used to.
SCHEDULE YOUR WORKOUT.
Once you have a playlist together with a variety of workouts to choose from, schedule your routine. Whether you want to work out first thing in the morning to get you motivated, or do an evening stretch before bed. It’s a good idea to have it all written down somewhere you can see it and so you can stick to the routine.
WORK OUT WITH FRIENDS.
Do you hate working out alone? Why not schedule in a zoom call or facetime with friends and have a virtual fit session?. You can play music, motivate each other and stick to a routine together. Plus you also get some quality time with friends you can look forward to.
WEAR GYM CLOTHES.
Let’s be honest, if you’re wearing your pjs and trying to work out, I doubt you’ll be that motivated haha. Lay out your favourite gym clothes out before your scheduled workout and make sure to get changed into them. You’ll feel motivated and ready for the session.
CREATE A SPACE.
Make sure to set up an area in your home that can become your ‘workout space’. If you don’t have an exercise mat then be sure to have a soft area to do abs and stretches. Your workout area should be bright and airy with enough space to complete each exercise you need. If you have dumbbells or kettlebells be sure to line them up in this area too so everything is in reach ready for you to go.
CREATE A FUN PLAYLIST.
One thing that really gets me motivated and ready is music. Create a fun playlist full of your favourite songs that get you going that you can listen to during your workout or just before as you’re getting yourself ready. You can even go as far as creating a different playlist for each session you want to focus on, for example an ‘Abs Blast’ playlist or a ‘Stretch’ playlist to wind down at the end of the day. You wouldn’t want to listen to a pumping playlist just before bed would you haha.
LEAVE YOURSELF NOTES.
Create a few notes on your phone or around the house to help motivate you. Put them in places you know you’ll look at them like by your phone charger, on your bathroom mirror or by the fridge as that’s where we all need one right now.
GET FRESH AIR.
Another thing that really motivates me and freshens my mind is going for a walk. Make sure to get some fresh air each day to stop you feeling sluggish. A simple 20 minute walk will help you; it’s all exercise too.
I hope these little tips help, they’ve helped me get into a routine and feel motivated to get up and work out. I feel so much better for it already and you also wont feel guilty about eating through those packs of biscuits.
