15 THINGS YOU COULD DO WHILE STAYING AT HOME.
The world seems to be a crazy place at the moment. Most people are social distancing themselves or going in full on lockdown (depending on where you are). I wanted to create a list of things you can do at home to help distract yourself and get through this difficult time.
GO FOR A RUN OR WALK.
Whether we go officially in lockdown or not, you are still able to go for a walk to the supermarket or to walk your dog (if you have one) while social distancing. Use this as a time to get some fresh air and clear your head, but remember to keep your distance from others. If you have a quick ten minute walk it will help reduce anxiety, stress and fatigue.
TIDY & CLEAR OUT YOUR HOME.
During this time and spending more hours at home, you might realise that there are certain tasks you have put off due to a busy social life. This could include sorting out old clothes, products and general tidying of the house. You could have a huge clear out and make some space, trust me it helps with lack of stress too. Once you have items you want to clear out, you could either donate, sell or take the items to people in need. You’ll feel so much better for it and it will give your space a less cluttered feel so you won’t feel as trapped.
TV SERIES & FILMS.
Do you have a list of series or films your friends or family keep going on about to watch? I know I have quite a few. Use this time to have a relax in the evenings and start going through the list. You could have them on in the background while doing other tasks too. If you’re feeling really bored, Netflix have advertised Netflix Party which is apparently where you can watch a film or series live with friends.
Being at home all day everyday can sometimes make you feel lazy or a lack of motivation. Make sure you have at least ten minutes a day for a work out, whether it’s yoga, a few gentle exercises or a HIIT. There are hundreds of videos you can follow on Youtube, The Body Coach being one I would personally recommend.
VIDEO CALL FRIENDS & FAMILY.
Times like this make you really value your loved ones. Be sure to check in with them everyday, even if it’s a quick text or phone call. You could even schedule a Facetime or Skype chat with your grandparents or parents if you are away from them. Another fun thing you could do is have wine nights with friends through Skype or Zoom, have a glass of wine (or your favourite drink) and act as if you were just having a normal night at a bar. Social distancing doesn’t mean you have to stop being social with friends.
I love reading and have a few books I’ve been waiting for time to read. You could either have an audiobook, ebook or find one in your home you enjoy. If you have any book suggestions feel free to leave the in the comments below.
CLEAR OUT YOUR PHONE.
Recently I had some spare time so decided to clear out my phone. I deleted old apps I never use, old photos I didn’t want to keep and tidied up my contacts too. My phone feels like a brand new phone. I love being organised and something as simple as this will make your head feel clearer.
In the evening, take some time to relax and unwind your mind before you sleep. This could be a simple bath or a facemask and hairmask. Since you’re at home and wont be wearing makeup or styling your hair, you can use this time to really make your skin glow and hair feel incredible again. For my personal self care routine and what products I use, take a look at my self care post.
LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE.
When else would you get the chance to sit down and learn a new language? This will be perfect for when we can travel again. It might even help you with future jobs or business opportunities too. A good app to use that is free is Duolingo.
LEARN A NEW SKILL.
Use this time during social distancing to learn something new that you’ve always wanted to learn. You could learn how to bake, play a musical instrument or a new skill online. There are plenty of videos on Youtube or Skillshare that can offer advice and give you the valuable information you need to learn the skills. Skillshare also offer 3 months free when you first sign up.
WRITE A LIST OF GOALS.
Do you have a list of countries you want to visit? Or things you want to do before you hit a certain age? This would be the perfect opportunity to research different lists you can create to get through when this is all over.
I know this sounds ridiculously dull and boring, but it’s something that you would need to eventually do. Go through bank statements, old letters that you can shred and tidy up your personal emails. You can play a fun playlist or have your favourite film on in the background while you do it.
Something that really helps motivate me is listening to podcasts in the morning. You could find a motivational one to start your day, or just one to chill out to when you want to relax and unwind.
If you have enough food and ingredients, learn how to cook a new meal that you could do when you get back into your normal routine. You could use this time to become more healthier and find new meals to change from your normal ones. Please do not panic buy food and ingredients though, find recipes with ingredients you already have.
If there is a room in your house/ flat you’ve been wanting to update you can use this time to plan and decorate. You could paint or rearrange the room, it will make you fall in love with your home all over again. If you are currently working from home also, you might realise you don’t have an area to work properly and could use this time to create a work space.
Have you been doing any of these things while social distancing?. Do you have any other ideas? Let’s hope this will all be over soon. Please look out for your neighbours, be responsible and stay safe.
